The European-Korean partnership

Saltfoss is working closely with Samsung Heavy Industries and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) in a consortium to develop and deploy the seaMSR-100 on floating platforms.

South Korea has a rare combination of world-class shipbuilding, advanced manufacturing capability, and deep nuclear supply chain and operating experience.

Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), brings world-class shipbuilding experience to the consortium. Some of the world’s largest and most complex floating infrastructure is built at SHI’s shipyards, using proven skills, processes and quality assurance. The power platform is designed to be manufactured centrally at the shipyard as a turnkey solution, rather than built from the ground up at each deployment site.

KHNP contributes nearly 50 years experience operating nuclear power plants at scale in South Korea, plus international experience from delivering the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the UAE.

On fuel, Saltfoss has partnered with KEPCO NF, a leading Korean nuclear fuel manufacturer with more than 40 years of experience. Combined with Saltfoss’s fluoride salt expertise, this strengthens the path toward fuel licensing and production.

All three partners are essential to making the floating nuclear power barge a reality combining shipyard manufacturing with nuclear operation and fuel expertise. It is rare to find this much relevant industrial capability concentrated in one country.

Saltfoss might be Danish by origin, but we perceive both South Korea and Denmark home. Danish reactor development paired with Korean industrial capability gives us a stronger foundation for building floating nuclear power plants at scale.
